Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
As the years have passed this film has continued to hold a special place in my heart and I imagine in the heart of nearly all Evans fans. I remember this marked the beginning of the new era. Before it, whenever I'd talk people about my favourite actor, which I was known to do quite a lot, I'd always have explain who he was and what films he'd been in. Part of our job as fans at that time was to spread the word about who he was and why he was such an amazing actor. At the time I was part of a Chris Evans fan site and I know it was one of only about 3 or 4 fan sites around at the time. After this film everyone knew who you were talking about. Now he's firmly established as an A list actor and sometimes you have to pinch yourself and say 'this is actually our Chris they're talking about'. It's as though his career is divided into B.C. (before Cap) and A.C. (after Cap). I don't know if anybody could count how many Chris related fan sites there are now!!!
I remember the excitement when rumour came out that he might be Cap and I remember exactly where I was when I heard he'd definitely got the role.
I remember the disbelief when I read not only was the film being mostly filmed in the UK but some of it was going to be filmed in the city I live in.
I remember Dale St in Manchester slowly being turned into 1940s New York and then going back when they were filming to see what I could see and finding myself actually standing next to Chris and feeling too weird to say hello. I write about the whole Manchester connection and my 'meeting' Chris here chris-evans.boards.net/post/827
It's SO cool every time I watch this film to know that whole scene was shot in this city.
Then I remember when it was released. The nerves of those few days waiting for the box office figures to be released and looking at Box Office Mojo every five seconds and then the nerves of waiting for the reviews. Then the overwhelming pride when we read them. We've actually put together some of the reviews in this thread here chris-evans.boards.net/post/847
I remember organising a group of about 10 people from work to go and see it and then actually really struggling not to be tearful as the credits rolled because I was just so ..... proud.
After that, as they say, the rest is history. Chris has just gone from strength to strength and we definitely don't have to explain who he is anymore but 'The First Avenger' was an amazing time.
