A roundup of the recent celebrations for Christopher's Haven's 20th Birthday
BOSTON (WHDH) - Massachusetts native and Captain America actor Chris Evans attended a celebration in Beacon Hill for a local charity’s 20th anniversary last week.
“The kids love him, and he just totally melts when it comes to the kids,” said Christopher’s Haven’s Executive Director Joyce Duvall. “He’s been with us for nine years, and never says no to anything we ask him to do.”
Christopher’s Haven provides low-cost housing for children and their families undergoing cancer treatment in Boston.
“Once they get there, we tell them, ‘We got your back. This is home.’ And all the other families gather around and tell them- sort of take them under their wings,” Duvall explained.
Duvall is a Sudbury native as well and her kids went to school with the A-lister so she said she did not hesitate to ask him to get involved with her organization.
She said he has spent time with countless kids at Christopher’s Haven over the years.
“Chris has raised a lot of money for us, and just doesn’t stop,” she said. “We have been really, really blessed to have him as our friend.”
Comedian Lenny Clarke and Boston Bruins anthem singer Todd Angilly were also in attendance.
Christopher’s Haven is located next to Massachusetts General Hospital.
