Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. It's so much easier and healthier to count your blessings than your problems

Forgive me here, but I'm going to be a little harsh on this one. I get that it's a great thing he's doing in encouraging people to donate to charity - no matter what country you come from charities need time and money. My friends & I tried to raise a bit for Christopher's Haven when we went to see Lobby Hero.
But $50k - that's small change to him. He could quite happily give over that and not miss it, he could probably get tax relief on that donation too. I KNOW he does a lot for them, and a lot of it isn't publicised, but celebs asking normal folk to give money just doesn't sit right with me - hence why I don't give much to Red Nose Day or Children In Need.
I dunno if it's just because it's Christmas and there's the pressure to give to the homeless and those living in poverty, to the abandoned animals and those sick & dying - you get what I mean?
I'd have far more respect for celebs when they post this sort of stuff if they posted a screenshot of their donation too - is that just me??

The thing is we've no idea what money is given behind the scenes. He may well have given much more than this at various times. But there are a couple of problems with going public with your personal donations. One is the fact that people will say celebrities are just out to promote themselves if they publicise their donations. The other is people will just stop donating if they think a charity is already well funded by someone wealthy. As far as CH is concerned I guess it's possible that Chris could just fund that whole project himself and they'd never need to ask for help from anyone else. I don't think it would be a wise move for any charity to become dependant on just one donor, however. The reason a request for help from someone like Chris is valuable to them though is simply the amount of publicity he can give. One tweet from him can bring the charity more publicity than they could ever get from a campaign they'd have to pay for. So he can't win really. By tweeting a plea he's giving them a huge boost in terms of publicity but at the same time making people think 'why don't you just give them the money?' In all the years I've been following the progress of CH I don't remember them ever actually reaching their target when they've had public appeals. I think you can safely assume that any short fall is made up for by Chris who has his own arrangements for financing them.

Good point, well made and I'm glad that in here discussions can be had, and opinions differ without anyone resorting to name calling and snide remarks which I encounter elsewhere.
It's a fine line for him I guess, and I know there's a few people on Twitter that donated because he tweeted it - so in the end I guess Christopher's Haven are the winners here!

Absolutely right. This place is a haven of sanity. Most of Evans fandom seems actually pretty nice but there are also some total nutcases out there and people can be so vicious. These teenagers can't cope with any disagreement. So we should give ourselves a pat on the back because this site is still the sanest, most mature, welcoming and non-objectifying CE fansite. Also the most informative.

I completely agree. This forum is peaceful and happy. And on the request for CH I think he was just making a suggestion that if you are going to donate on giving Tuesday please consider CH and their goal.

Also the most informative. Agreed. This forum has such a nice, respectful atmosphere. It's what drew me in and led me to join. I think the atmosphere is this way because this forum is so small. As the number of users increases, so does the drama. Though sometimes you only one person out of line to create drama, so it can happen anywhere. Besides this, objectifying in general makes the unconformtable, so I try to stay from places that do this.
