Warning for fans. Hello, ladies and gentlemen, I'm new here, but I'm glad to be in the middle of people who have the same interests as I do. I signed up for this forum because I like Chris Evans very much, I just saw Knives out (on January 3rd it was launched in my country), and I was very happy about it. But I also signed up because I want to warn you about something that just happened to me. Like many of you, I follow Chris Evans' fan accounts on Instagram, twitter (and official account, of course), facebook (the same). Well, on Instagram - where I knew he didn't have an official account -two weeks ago, I received a private message from a newly established account, which claims to be Chris's official account. It's called "chris_evans_official" and has now just over 5,000 followers. The person behind this account invited me to have a private chat on gmail / hangouts, which I found it very weird. I'm a fan from Romania, after all, and definitely not young or stupid to think I'm so lucky However, I accepted out of curiosity. In a few days, the person became very familiar with me, using a very familiar language "babe", "love", sweetheart", which - again - seemed very unreal to me. It was too fast and too much. But what really annoyed me was that today, out of nowere, that person asked me to buy him a gift card from Sephora! Pretending to be Chris Evans! Incredible! Obviously, I I immediately realized what was happening. I am from Romania and my country is famous, among a lot of good things, unfortunately also for hackers and frauds on Internet. Because of this, I know how to recognize an attempt. Which is why I wrote to him some things that I cannot reproduce, for reasons of decency of course, and I reported that profile to Instagram and blocked it. I find it incredible and revolting, and I'm very angry that there are some individuals out there who take advantage of our preferences, of the thinks we love, to do so. So I thought it's best to warn you about it.

Welcome to the forum Dana, always nice to see new faces around here! This is a very common issue I think, some people sadly fall for it. Like why would Chris need a gift card from any of his fans right? Thank you for the warning also.

Welcome to the forum. I'm sorry you had that experience. But glad you were wise enough to not fall for it. I'm with E...why would Chris need a gift card from a fan. Unfortunately people do fall for scams quite easily

Welcome to the forum, and thanks for the warning.
Chris tweeted this back in November -
And, sorry if I sound harsh, but if anyone gets scammed by this then it's their own fault.

I knew about that twitt from nov. At that time I didn't think that could happen to me. You know... you are aware of the danger, but you have the feeling that this will not happen to you. that you will not be tested like this. it does! and frankly, that instagram account had more then 5.000 followers! that's the part that scares me! I can not agree with you - capsbestgirl - on the problem with "they get what they deserve because they are stupid". No, I try to prevent people, even the stupid one, to be cheated on by this thieves. That's why I put this tread here.

Therefore if someone is desperate (and dumb) enough to get caught out by these scammers, they only have themselves to blame.
I had one guy message me on Twitter, claiming to be Chris. I asked him what he was working on - he said Knives Out. 'Chris' didn't even know who he was starring with in this film, and didn't know where LA was!! I strung him on for a bit before the account got deleted.

Hi Dana, welcome on board. The more the merrier. Thanks for the info and I'm glad you're intelligent enough to realise immediately what you were dealing with. I try my best to be generous as so many of these fans are very young but like capsbestgirl in the end I've run out of patience. To me it is incredibly vain to imagine for a second that Chris Evans is going to randomly follow and contact a young fan who he doesn't know anything about. It's arrogant. It also fucks me off that these people class themselves as die hard fans when they clearly know so little about him if they can imagine he could do something like that. AFTER Chris posted his tweet about imposters somebody I know on Twitter sent me a DM saying another Chris Evans scammer had followed her ..... and for a second she thought it was actually him!!! Seriously, what can you do?

Ohh ya I got an appreciation mail and message from the same Instagram account too. First, I thought I was so lucky then when the hangout thing happened I became sure I was being made a fool and I reported to Instagram and Gmail too to block this account.

When I first joined Twitter (which, honestly, I barely use but had to have it for a class), I got followed by 4 fake-Chris Pratt accounts and two fake Hugh Jackman accounts, in my first month or so. A couple months ago, a fake Queen Latiffa account began following and messaging me. The internet can be a freaky place.

My sister and I, a couple of years ago decided to have a Chris Evans movie marathon. I thoroughly enjoyed a majority of the movies he starred in, so this past summer, I decided to follow him and his fans pages on Instagram to show my utmost support. Unfortunately before I knew that Chris made that tweet, and Chris had a verified official account, I ended up following an impostors account, several of them in fact, they used their charm and they tried scamming me several different ways and one of came quite close to succeeding. They always start with "Hello beautiful fan". Chris is truly a good person and he and his well dedicated fans, such as myself, shouldn't have to deal with someone, using his good name to swindle others, that truly admire him and his work. I finally got fed up and blocked and reported some of the fake accounts, there is truly allot out there. Too many to keep track of unfortunately like he said be careful.

It actually amazes me how many people use celeb info/pictures to try to scam people. My mom had a Dr.Phil (I'm not a big fan, gotta say) episode on, and he had a woman who had been scammed by a fake Tyler Perry for years.

Hi, I believe he said he only has two social media accounts: one on Twitter and one on Instagram (both verified accounts). If it's neither, I would assume it's someone impersonating Chris Evans.

Yes, they are impersonating him. Chris tweeted again in March about people pretending to be him to scam people out of money.
