Chris Evans Attends Dedication Ceremony For Youth Theatre Where He Got His Start
By Brent Furdyk.
He may have played Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but for the Concord Youth Theater, Chris Evans is even more heroic than his big-screen alter ego.
That’s because the 38-year-old “Avengers” star returned to his hometown of Concord, Massachusetts, to do a very good deed for the children’s theatre group where he got his start, acting with the theatre troupe as a youngster
On Saturday, Evans was on hand for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to dedicate the theatre’s new building; as CBS Boston reports, the Concord Youth Theater had been without a permanent home after being unable to renew its lease.
Help arrived in the form of an anonymous benefactor (whose name isn’t revealed, but is believed to be Evans) who bought and renovated a new permanent location for the theatre.
Evans first started performing in productions with Concord Youth Theater at age 9, and he still maintains a close connection, given that his mother has served as the theatre’s executive director since 1998, and both of his sisters are also actively involved with productions.
“It was a place to feel safe and take risks, and what would ultimately lead me to my career,” Evans told the crowd that assembled for the ribbon-cutting ceremony, explaining his role will be to serve as an adviser.
“It’s my home,” he explained. “Family, friends, I can’t imagine living anywhere else.”
