FYC ads for Endgame. I assume there will be more - at least for VFX and Score.

Disney has submitted all the main ensemble actors from Endgame for Oscar consideration.
While I don't think it'd happen in a gazillion years, It'd be nice to see Mr Evans get an Oscar nom for his role as Steve Rogers.

They're doing the across the board noms like they did for Black Panther last year. (I mean Brie, Zoe and Gwyneth in supporting when they all had about 5 minutes on screen and only Paltrow had anything of any substance) Overall though, the acting categories for the men are too competitive this year. The only chance and it's slim since he's not even personally campaigning for it is RDJ in supporting (even though he and Chris were leads). They could get a SAG Cast nom though. Chris might also get a SAG cast nom for Knives Out. Scarlett is almost certainly getting a Best Actress nom for A Marriage Story.Best chances at Oscars are for AEG are VFX, Sound Editing & Sound Mixing. Maybe Score. If there wasn't such prejudiced against CBMs in the Academy then Editing and Best Picture would seriously be on the table. Full FYC www.disneystudiosawards.com/avengers/consider

This might be a controversial opinion, but I don't care whether Chris wins an Oscar or not. It would be nice to have his talent recognised with an award, but in the end I know he's a great actor, and that's all I care about.
Perhaps I'm biased, because I follow a lot of talented musicians and singers who will never win an award. Either because they're too small or the genre they're in isn't popular at awards.

I feel split. It would be nice to for him to have an Oscar but to be honest I don't really approve of any type of competition involving a decision to choose just one to be what is 'best' film/actor/director/whatever because it's art, which is totally subjective and shouldn't really be a competition. I've always thought that there should be something like they have in the Chelsea flower show! I'm being serious. If a garden is judged to be outstanding it can receive an award. They give out gold, silver and bronze medals but they give gold medals to anyone they think deserves one. There's not just one medal. In 2018 they gave 10 gold medals. If you deserve one, you get one. I can see some pitfalls to this system and it would have to be strictly, fairly and carefully administrated because it would be open to corruption but I hate when you see fantastic performances by artists and they just have to pick one winner. It's not a 100m sprint. Or any sport in fact.

the backlash against disney putting their names out is sad, but not surprising.
first off, i'm not sure if people understand how actual nominees are decided, or are being deliberately disingenuous? just because disney puts forth the names, it doesn't mean anyone is going to get nominated. best supporting actor is really crowded this year, and the chances are slim anyway. but it's not as if there is some objective criteria upon which any of this is decided. it's not even decided by members of the public. it's literally decided by industry insiders who never ever disclose their thought processes. it's as self-congratulatory as it gets. this is why, for example, the deck is stacked against the russos. the public can only appreciate that a lot of effort went into making endgame work; but apparently, amongst said insiders, the russos have a rep as being company yesmen. the public can appreciate their efforts, but for information that the public is not privy to, they can be deemed not worthy.
and seriously. if the movie going public as a whole could go back, and say, give harrison ford an oscar for indiana jones, for example, would anyone really object? who even remembers who the best actor winners were from those years? will anyone, ten years from now, care that casey affleck won for manchester by the sea, mccounaghy for dallas buyer's club, and leo di caprio for revenant? (they're still slightly embarrassed about the first)! i would bet good money that some of the people complaining about disney floating the names don't even remember it now! and seriously, i love joe pesci, but he's going to get a nom for... being an angry italian with "little man syndrome" and a short fuse? wow, he's never done that before! /sarcasm
and really, if titanic and avatar can be nominated for best picture, certainly endgame can be. along a similar vein, i loved moonlight, but how many people complaining actually remember moonlight, or three billboards etc., etc.?
will people care that evans was cap ten years from now? YES! when the inevitable reboot shapes up, will there be arguments over whether the next pick be worthy to fill the shoes? OF COURSE. it may even be that attempts to create a big screen cap again will sink careers, the way attempts to recast superman has. that doesn't mean he deserves an oscar, but it does make people complaining that disney is throwing his name out to be considered nauseating and infantile.
