Five years ago, Salt Lake Comic Con was a brand new concept dreamed up by co-founders Dan Farr and Bryan Brandenburg and originally slated to fill just one vendor hall at the South Towne Expo Center in Sandy.

Favorite moments
Looking back over the past five years of events, Brandenburg said he could off-hand think of about 3,000 of his favorite moments, but would narrow them down to meeting Buzz Aldrin and Mark Hamill, and seeing Chris Evans interact with guests.
“One of my favorite moments was getting to meet the second man who walked on the moon, Buzz Aldrin,” he said. “I’m a guy that was old enough to witness that. My dad pulled me in and said, ‘Son, you’re going to witness history today.’ I didn’t understand at the time, but he was adamant I watch the moon landing. To get to meet that kind of legend (is definitely a favorite).”
Brandenburg said he was also one of the thousands of fans standing in mile-long lines to see “Star Wars: A New Hope” in 1977.
“I love ‘Star Wars’ -- it’s my favorite fandom,” he said. “To get to meet Mark Hamill and have the first panel in the Vivint Arena with 12,000 other fans was off-the-chart epic.”
The final moment, with Evans, actually took place behind the scenes, when Evans, who portrays Captain America in the Marvel films, was running late to his scheduled panel. Unbeknown to fans or media, Evans was backstage meeting with kids from the Make-A-Wish Foundation, a moment intentionally kept private.
“To witness that kind of character was really moving,” Brandenburg said.
