I was inspired to do this by picap's comment in Karlacev's gallery of Chris posing with fans.
Maybe because I'm a dad myself but it is really noticeable to me how our guy is happy to go the extra mile for kids. It's an important part of why he's more than just my favourite actor and I expect we all agree on that. I love what his mother said once..
David's Story
This story happened in 2010.
The following was written by the father of a little boy with epilepsy who was a huge Johnny Storm fan. This all happened before Captain America was released.
That is the best description of an excited child and actually brought tears to my eyes.
Now he's Cap and has so many more young fans I wonder if he could actually do that anymore but I remember the public reaction for example on www.comicbookmovie.com site. Here are just a few, remember this was before The First Avenger came out and people were wondering about Chris as Cap.
And so on.....!!
It must be pretty difficult and even burdensome to know you are a hero in the eyes of so many kids when you know you're just a guy. It's a hell of a responsibility but it's one that Chris tries really hard to live up and apart from scary it must be so amazing to know you can bring real joy into the life of a child by just giving a bit of yourself. It's a responsibility and a privilege at the same time.
(I've been PMing BsM84 behind the scenes because I'm really crap at posting pictures and he's gonna do that for me so it's a bit of a joint effort. I also don't know where this thread should go but I'll put it in gallery for the moment.)
He never looks happier than when he's with a little kid.

Kids are his bliss. He loves kids. I’ve been with him when he is on set and you will be standing there and people are screaming and all of a sudden he will look over and see a little guy with a shield and just walks right over. That is his comfort level because it is pure, it is innocent, it is sweet, it is that hero stuff. He takes his role very, very seriously. He had those feelings for heroes when he was a kid. He still gets shaky knees about Tom Brady. So he gets it.
David's Story
This story happened in 2010.
The following was written by the father of a little boy with epilepsy who was a huge Johnny Storm fan. This all happened before Captain America was released.
My little boy David loves watching the Fantastic Four films, he especially loves Chris Evans and spends a lot of time playing at being Johnny Storm. I have to play the baddie and he defeats me. He’s got his walls covered with Johnny Storm pictures too and he knows all the lines. We were recently staying with my best friend Tom who lives in Manchester, England and found out that Chris Evans was coming to town. David was disappointed to find that we’d have already left before the film crew arrived so he sat down and made a card with some pictures for Chris Evans and wrote him a little note. I’ve never seen him sit so long at a table and concentrate! I wish I’d scanned it but I never thought. On the front he did a little picture of Johnny Storm flying across the sky and inside another picture of a scene from the first movie with some speech bubbles and he wrote a little note to Chris saying he was his favourite actor. His ‘uncle’ Tom promised he’d try to get it to Chris Evans for him.
Tom took the card to the film site but security was so tight that he couldn’t get near anyone so he left the card with a note saying who it was from and that he was sorry not to get to take a photo for David’s birthday which was soon. The security guy told him to write down his address and he’d try to find someone to pass it to but made no promises as everything was crazy.
That was on Friday 24th Sept. The following morning Tom received a special ‘next day delivery’ from Chris Evans! In it was a brilliant photo of Chris holding up David’s little card, a birthday card with a message from Chris Evans, he’d also signed two BluRay DVD covers with a little message on each for David. On one it said ‘FLAME ON!’ and was signed and on the other it said ‘DREAM BIG, BUDDY’ and was also signed.
It was David’s birthday yesterday. When he saw the card from Chris he read it, looked up, read it again, asked us to read it for him then he just stared at it grinning just repeating, ‘‘really? not really! really? is it real?’’ When we told him what had happened he started to tremble a bit, ran to his room, ran back again and basically didn’t know where to put himself. He had actually seen the photo before his birthday but we’ve now had it framed and he knew about nothing else. For the rest of the day he kept running back to the card and picture to look at them for the millionth time. We haven’t been allowed to play the DVDs yet as they have to stay on display and no-one’s allowed to touch them. When he’d gone to bed at the end of the day, we were tidying the mess up and had a big panic because we couldn’t find the photo! We were just getting desperate when David’s older sister had an idea. She checked under his pillow and it was there!
Most of the films on Youtube of the filming were taken on Fri 24th and I think it was their busiest day. Yet blockbuster movie or not Chris Evans still stopped to take the time to make a big effort for a little boy and for that he will always be loved in our household. Earlier this year David developed epilepsy really quite badly but is incredibly brave and is always cheerful and it meant a lot to us that he had such a special surprise this year. We are really grateful and David’s learnt a lovely lesson about consideration, kindness and values that he will remember forever.
Because of his age (7 and one day) and his health problems we want to keep David’s details private but really wanted to share the story with people who are fans of Chris Evans so you can see he really is as decent a guy as people say he is. You can see the photo and a scan of the card though.
So if anyone who knows Chris Evans actually reads this, PLEASE tell him that he made a little boy very, very happy. And his parents too!
Good luck with everything you do Chris. We wish you happiness and success.

This brought a tear to my eye (probably because I have kids myself).
Chris Evans' example here should set the bar for how so-called 'stars' treat their public.

They said no one can cast Captain America, they're right as he is but an ideal... but they sure as hell got the best damn Steve Rogers right there when they got Chris Evans... and that translates well into being a great Cap as Steve Rogers embodies those ideals even before he took up the shield. Epic Win indeed for Chris, a real down-to Earth dude who hasn't let everything that's happened to him get to his head.
If any one still had doubts about Chris as Cap after reading this then you are never truly going to be satisfied, ever... because that is the most cap thing to do and you can just tell it was done from the heart the role is just made for Chris...he is now Steve Rogers
Wow, what an awesome guy Chris Evans is! This might just be the best casting devision Marvel gave ever made.
I had no in intentions of seeing the Captain America movie, but after reading that story, I'm gonna give this movie a shot simply because the lead actor is a real hero
I love hearing about when the actors playing our 'good guys' are actual good guys.
wow this story might change my mind he just might make a good cap
I am grateful that a celebrity is willing to take the time out of their schedule and make a special heartfelt gesture to a little guy.
Being a father who has a child with severe health issues, this really hits the heart. By defintion a hero is somebody who is admired for outstanding qualities or achievements. I think this act definitely makes him a hero in that child's eyes.
When Marvel first cast RDJ as Tony Stark, I thought the studio could not cast any better. Well, I was wrong, Chris Evans IS Steve Rodgers maybe not in looks but definitely in his soul

Now that just shows someone who is in the movie business for one reason: because he likes making people happy. Someone who takes joy in inspiring and entertaining others with their work is what being a star is supposed to be about.
To see someone has enough passion in their work to realize its not about money or stardom but about the fans is truly admirable and it shows with this awesome gesture.
Whether you like the choice of Chris as Cap or not, you have to know someone who cares that much is going to give a 100% effort to make this movie a success, not for himself but for his fans. I believe CA is going to be a huge success!
